Prayagraj: The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog plans to develop tourism along with industry in Prayagraj and Varanasi and develop the two districts on the lines of NCR (National Capital Region).
This follows a visit of the team of experts to Prayagraj on Monday which talked about setting up a Regional Development Authority to develop both cities situated on the banks of Ganga and their surrounding areas on the lines of NCR.The team of experts were led by senior advisor Anna Roy.
The officials of the department associated with the development schemes of Prayagraj have been instructed to make improvements in basic facilities along with planned development.
The team has made it clear that all development work will have to be done on the basis of the parameters of NITI Aayog. The master plan of the city should also be as per NITI Aayog.
According to officials who interacted with the team, employment opportunities will increase in Prayagraj and Varanasi following the planned development of industry and tourism and exodus of manpower will come down drastically. This will also change the conditions of the villages nearby.
According to vice chairman of Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), Arvind Kumar Chauhan, “The team of NITI Aayog has given many suggestions to develop Prayagraj and Varanasi region in a sustainable manner. It has been suggested to make a similar development plan in both areas, for which, PDA will create integrated and hi-tech township with the help of experts.”
“In the meeting with departmental officials, the NITI Aayog members talked about a three-tier plan of development at micro level and of the city and surrounding districts, for development of the area. The Municipal Corporation has been asked to improve the basic facilities by 2030”, said municipal commissioner Chandra Mohan Garg.
According to senior tax and finance advisor Pawan Jaiswal, “The Aayog is brainstorming on the development of the area for a year. The commission has chalked out plan for this area and the implementing agencies will have to work accordingly. To stop migration from the region, tourism will have to be promoted besides developing industries.” Kashi and Sangam city are going to become a big religious tourism circuit of the country in the time to come,” he added.
The areas on which administration of both districts have been advised to work on include providing clean drinking water to every household, making micro plans for development in urban areas, involving surrounding districts in development, marking land for industrial hub, education and health facilities and greater use of green energy.
The commission also suggested to improve transport facilities, development of hi-tech city around Ring Road, development of water transport and creating riverfront to increase tourism.
