Panaji: Interacting with 45 students from Chhattisgarh last week, chief minister Pramod Sawant said that Goa is not only about its beaches, but Goa lives in its villages. He said youth interactions with Goa’s population are helping people across the country understand the real Goa, which is serious about preserving its culture.
Forty-five undergraduate and postgraduate students from Chhattisgarh were in Goa to participate in the Yuva Sangam programme, where student exchange is carried out between states to introduce those in the 18–30 age group to local culture.
“Prime Minister Narendra has always said that our focus for the development of this country over the next 25 years is on four areas—nari shakti, yuva shakti, kisan shakti, and gareeb kalyan. You are the yuva shakti and you have the opportunity to see what the real Goa is. Otherwise, people would think Goa meant only beaches. In other states, the British ruled for 150 years, but in the case of Goa, despite 450 years of Portuguese rule, the people of Goa have preserved their culture and its temples,” Sawant told the students.
The Yuva Sangam delegates from Chhattisgarh arrived in Goa on December 17, and their visit was coordinated by the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa under its director, professor O R Jaiswal.
“Along with sun, sand and sea, we want to add the ‘s’ of science in Goa. We recently inaugurated a planetarium in Goa. We need you to go back and tell others what Goa really is about,” Sawant said.
The CM said he was fortunate to visit Chhattisgarh three times and liked the similarities in the paddy fields of Goa and Chhattisgarh.
