More Central Funds For Relief Will Depend On Team’s Report: Murugan | Coimbatore News – Times of India

ERODE: Union minister of state for information and broadcasting L Murugan on Saturday said the Centre had given 900 crore to Tamil Nadu as the disaster relief fund and it would decide on providing more funds based on the report of the central team which assessed the rain-affected districts recently.
Commenting on Udhayanidhi Stalin’s comment that they had only sought people’s tax money from the Union government towards the disaster relief, the BJP leader said he was being childish.“He should develop himself as matured and cultured.”
Murugan, who was a special guest at the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana meeting and Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra at Bhavanisagar and Sathyamangalam taluks in Erode, gave away welfare measures to 35 beneficiaries of various central government schemes on the day. Addressing the media, Murugan blamed the DMK government for not taking measures to handle the flood situation in Chennai and southern districts. “The government says it has spent 4,000 crore on rainwater drainage work. But I don’t know what happened to that 4,000 crore.”
He also urged the state government to provide reasonable compensation to the farmers in the southern districts who suffered heavy losses in the rain.
Talking about the DMK ministers, Murugan said one of them was already in the central prison, while another one recently convicted. “Another 11 ministers are facing corruption charges. We cannot separate the DMK and corruption. All the corrupt DMK ministers will face legal action.” Pointing out that TRAI had announced several regulations on broadcasting for local TV channels, he said the same would not affect anyone.

Senior DMK minister faces disqualification as Madras HC convicts him for corruption
The Madras high court has convicted Tamil Nadu’s higher education minister K Ponmudi in a corruption case, resulting in his disqualification as an MLA. If the Supreme Court does not stay his conviction, Ponmudi will also lose his position as a minister. The court found Ponmudi and his wife guilty of offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act, setting aside their previous acquittal. The court has directed Ponmudi and his wife to appear on December 21 for the sentencing, and the minister’s lawyer has requested permission to appeal before the Supreme Court.
Will corruption charges hurt the DMK?
K Ponmudy, a DMK minister, is facing corruption charges. This is a setback for the DMK as Ponmudy could become the first serving DMK minister to be sentenced for corruption. The conviction could impact Ponmudy’s political career and dent the DMK’s image. The BJP is likely to use this conviction as campaign material in the upcoming elections and to counter the DMK’s claims of political vendetta. The AIADMK, the main opposition party, has remained silent on the conviction.
