Belagavi: Shivanand Patil, the minister for sugar and agriculture marketing said that, now the sugarcane crop is an important crop that helps the country’s economy. The sugar factories should work to protect the welfare of the farmers of the state, he advised.
Speaking while presiding over the awarding ceremony of season 2022-23 for Sugar factories of the State held at the S Nijalingappa Sugar Institute auditorium Belagavi, on Friday, the minister said that the role of sugarcane crop in the scientific revolution of the world is considerable. Sugar mills have a bright future for another 100 years. The state government is getting an income of around Rs 25 to 35 thousand crore from the sugar industry. The state now ranks third in sugarcane cultivation in the country. We are going to occupy the second and first place in a few years.
Farmers should adopt a scientific farming system apart from traditional farming. The farmers should be encouraged to make such efforts, he said.
Awards to factories
The Godavari Sugar Factory of Sameerwadi in Bagalkot and the Halsiddhanath Sugar Factory of Nippani were given the best technical efficiency award.
The same way, first, second and third prizes were awarded to Shiv Shakti Sugars of Bavansoudatti in Raibag taluk, Krishna Sugars of Sankonatti in Athani taluk, and Renuka Sugars of Munoli in Savadatti taluk respectively in North-West zone.
In the Northeast zone, the first and second prizes and awards were distributed to KPR Sugars of Chinmmgera in Kalaburagi district and the Mahatma Gandhi Sugars of Hunji in Bidar district.
In the South and Central zones, Vijayanagar Sugars of Shingatalur Gangapur in Gadag district, and Coromandel Sugars of Makavalli in Mandya district were awarded first and second prizes respectively.
