Gurgaon: Police have arrested a mechanic for allegedly shooting dead a driver working with a cab aggregator over an argument over trip charges on the Delhi-Jaipur highway in Manesar a day before.
Cops said on Sunday that Uday Veer was on his way to Pachgaon in Nuh when he was shot by Chotu (24). Veer’s body was found inside the cab, with a gunshot wound to his head, on Saturday morning.
ACP (crime) Varun Dahiya said Chotu told them during interrogation that he took the cab from Aravali Heights in Dharuhera. “He said he was intoxicated and was carrying a gun. When he stepped down near Pachgaon, he had an argument with the driver over trip charges. The argument escalated, and Chotu, out of rage, shot the victim,” Dahiya said.
But investigators are looking for other possible motives, including any acquaintance with the driver’s wife.
“We haven’t finished interrogating him. We are scanning CCTV footage that recorded the movement of the driver’s car on the day of the murder,” the ACP said.
He added: “Chotu might have known the driver, but we are yet to confirm that. Based on allegations by Veer’s family, we are also checking if his wife was involved. We are checking Chotu’s call records and travel history. We don’t know if he booked the cab through an app or directly boarded the car.” Chotu belongs to UP’s Itah and lives in Dharuhera with his newly married wife. Veer hails from Auraiya, UP.
On Saturday morning, passersby spotted Veer’s body in the cab parked along the highway in Manesar. Cops initially said they suspected a robbery or an altercation as it appeared the driver was shot from a short distance.
Chotu has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC in an FIR at the Manesar police station.
