Hubballi: The number of Covid-19 cases is increasing in the state. Amidst the fear of spread, several people, who were not vaccinated earlier, have been enquiring about the vaccines.
According to the sources, as of now, the decision has not been taken regarding the Covid-19 vaccination in the state. The experts and technical advisory committee are expected to analyse the effect and impact of the new Covid-19 variant JN.1 and later recommend further course of action to the cabinet sub-committee.
The state government constituted a four-member cabinet sub-committee to manage the Covid-19 infections on December 22, headed by health and family welfare minister Dinesh Gundurao. Other members of the panel are social welfare minister HC Mahadevappa, medical education minister Sharan Prakash Patil, and higher education minister MC Sudhakar. According to the situation and recommendations, the sub-committee will decide on vaccines.
Randeep D, commissioner of health and family welfare, said that the technical advise committee (TAC) has to take a call on the need for vaccines. “The committee will discuss the vaccines in a meeting and recommend it to the cabinet sub-committee. The sub-committee meeting is scheduled on December 26 and they will decide on the recommendation by the TAC,” he said.
“Currently, we cannot tell anything about the trend. We need to increase tests by 5,000 daily. Based on the result of testing we can analyse the trend. Now around 2,000 tests are being done daily,” Randeep added.
Padmavati, 38, said: “During the vaccination drive, I failed to get vaccinated as I was pregnant. Now fear of Covid has mounted again, so I want to get vaccinated and am enquiring about the vaccine for three to four days. We are not receiving any proper response or information from the concerned authorities.”
According to the sources in the health department, the government is preparing to procure vaccines instead of waiting for assistance from the Union government if TAC and cabinet sub-committee decide so. Sources also added that chief minister Siddaramaih also directed the officials of the health department to wait for the cabinet sub-committee; ‘s decision over the procurement of vaccines.
