Ceilings crash, 2 sisters in Greater Noida house die | Noida News – Times of India

NOIDA: Two sisters – aged three and five years – died in a vertical collapse of two floors during repair work at a house in Dadri on Sunday evening. Four labourers carrying out the construction suffered grievous injuries and were said to be critical.
Lal Singh, a farmer in Dadri’s Samadhipur, was getting the terrace of his two-storey house repaired when it gave away around 4pm.
“The labourers were placing a new layer of bricks on the terrace when it gave away. After the debris landed on the first floor, it also came crashing down under the massive weight,” additional DCP Ashok Kumar told TOI.
Reeva (3) and Jeeva (5), Lal Singh’s granddaughters, were playing in the ground-floor drawing room and were buried under the rubble. Singh and the other family members were basking in the sunshine in the courtyard of their 25-year-old house.
The four construction workers who fell with the debris were identified as Rajveer (45), Vinod (43), Sanjeev (35) and Pankaj (23) – all of them from Samadhipur.
“A police team rushed to the house with an ambulance. The two sisters and construction workers were pulled out of the rubble and rushed to a nearby hospital. However, he girls were declared dead on arrival. The injured labourers were later shifted to GIMS after their condition deteriorated. The doctors said that they had suffered critical injuries and were undergoing treatment,” Kumar said.
Police are waiting for a complaint from the family, who were busy with the cremation of the sisters.
“We have initiated legal proceedings, but are yet to receive any complaint from the family. We have to find out if there was any lapse in carrying out the construction work,” the ADCP said.
Roof collapses have claimed several lives in Noida and Greater Noida in the past few years.
On July 12, a 42-year-old man died while his wife and son were injured after their single-storey house collapsed in Jewar. Police found that the house collapse was triggered by heavy rain over the past few days.
In September 2020, a portion of a boundary wall in Jal Vayu Vihar collapsed on a group of construction workers, killing four of them and leaving eight others injured.
In July 2018, 10 persons died and over a dozen were injured when a six-storey building came crashing down in Greater Noida’s Shahberi village.
