Ludhiana: Dream of two city residents to participate in reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati, popularly known as KBC, finally came true when they paved their way to the “hot seat”.
Happiness of Arjun Raj Purohit, a sweet maker, and Anna Goyal, an assistant professor at Punjab Agricultural University, knew no bounds when they got the chance to appear on TV and meet the show host and legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan.
Arjun said he had been trying to take part in the show since it was first launched in 2000 and sit in front of Amitabh Bachchan. “My dream came true almost a month ago when I reached the hot seat. My episode was aired on December 21,” he said, while sharing his “very long” journey.
“Ever since KBC started airing in 2000, I was trying my best to get selected. I had managed to reach the ground auditions in 2009 and 2014, but could not go further. When KBC’s 15th season was announced, I tried once again,” he added.
His story got interesting when he reached the “Fastest Finger First” round, whose episode was aired on August 14, but could not win.
As luck would have it, KBC on Diwali conducted a lucky draw of a few participants, who had missed their chance, and he was one of them. “Sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan and answering his questions is equivalent to winning crores for me. I served him Ghevar and Dilkushan Barfi from my shop. Amitabh ji also talked to me about Ludhiana, its food and industry. He told me that he had been reading Sahir Ludhianvi’s books,” Arjun said.
Though Arjun could win only Rs 3.2 lakh, he said it was not the prize money that was important for him but sitting and chatting on the “hot seat” along with Amitabh Bachchan.
Arjun hails from Araba in Jodhpur, but 25 years ago, he came to Ludhiana where he runs “Om Bikaner Mishthan Bhandar” in Aggar Nagar.
The second participant, Anna Goyal, also won Rs 3.20 lakh, but the memories she made during the show would last a lifetime.
A resident of Barewal Road, she recalled how she had been watching the show since she was just 14 years old.
“I, along with my father Bharat Bhushan Goyal, used to watch this show, which also helped expanding my knowledge base. Meeting Amitabh Bachchan is the biggest reward for me, not the prize money. Since the play along section started in the show, I never missed it once. I had been trying to participate in KBC since 2012,” Anna shared.
