Guwahati: Hordes of tourists at the Kaziranga National Park — a Unesco world heritage site — were deprived of a jumbo safari on Christmas eve as private elephant owners in Bagori range, famous for sighting rhinos, joined an indefinite strike in the morning. The elephant safari will resume on Monday.
Though the conflict arose due to the decision of the park authorities to reserve one of the four seats on each of the 32 private elephants for forest guards thereby leading to losses for the elephant owners, it was resolved amicably.
“The matter has been resolved after a fruitful discussion and directions from the government. Private elephant safari will resume from tomorrow at Kaziranga,” KNPTR field director Sonali Ghosh said on Sunday.
