PATNA: A man shot himself dead during a video call to his wife at Islamnagar under Chandradeep police station area in Jamui district around Saturday midnight. The deceased had a love marriage with the woman but the two had some dispute over a family issue.
The deceased was identified as Jitendra Kumar (28), son of Yamuna Choudhary. Jitendra was having a love affair with Bharti Kumari, a resident of Mirjaganj, for the last several years.
Jitendra convinced his family members to marry the girl. Jitendra and Bharti got married at the Shiva temple in Mahadev Simaria locality. The couple has a four-month-old baby boy, police said.
SHO Mohammad Abdul Haleem said the couple had a dispute over some family issue a week ago. “Bharti left Jitendra’s house and went to her parents at Mirganj. Jitendra had been trying to bring her back for the last few days, but Bharti switched off her mobile phone and refused to meet him. On Saturday midnight, Jitendra made a video call to Bharti and tried to convince her to come back home, but she did not agree. They started quarrelling and Jitendra took out a countrymade pistol and shot himself in his head. The family members rushed to his room on hearing the gunshot, but Jitendra was already dead. The body was sent for postmortem. A kutta (countrymade pistol) and Jitendra’s mobile phone were recovered from his room,” the SHO said.
