Dibrugarh: An Ulfa (I) cadre and three youths purportedly en route to join the banned outfit were injured in police firing in two separate incidents in upper Assam’s Sivasagar and Tinsukia districts respectively when they attempted to escape from custody, police said on Sunday.
While the militant involved in a grenade blast in Sivasagar was injured on Sunday, the other three were hurt in firing in Tinsukia district on Saturday night, they said.“The overground operative (linkman) of Ulfa-I, identified as Pallab Jyoti Gogoi, accompanied a police team to a hideout in the Deopani Geleki area of Sivasagar district in the early morning hours. After alighting, he suddenly pushed a security guard and started running towards the forest taking advantage of the poor visibility. One of our police personnel opened fire to stop him. He was hit in the leg and later shifted to the Assam Medical College and Hospital for treatment,” police said.
