Vijayapura: One should join hands to protect heritage and environment, said major industry minister MB Patil. Concluding the Vrukshathon Heritage Run-2023 here, on Sunday, Patil also pressed to conserve water sources, and trees and through that glory of Vijayapura should be reinstated. “Vrukshathon is aimed to plant one crore saplings in the district, which has world-famous monuments like Gol Gumbaz, and Ibrahim Roza.If they are maintained amidst greenery and healthy environment, then the district will witness tourism development that creates direct and indirect jobs for youths,” he said.
“Inspired by our success, water expert Rajendra Singh has planned to hold such an event in Rajasthan,” he asserted. He claimed that he had started Vrukshathon during his tenure as water resources minister in 2016 and has been successful in planting 1.50 crore trees. “Forest area increased from 0.17% to 2% in the last seven years,” he stated.

Chennai Petroleum Corporation continues clean-up operations at Ennore Creek, with further reduction in oil in the water. 240 manpower and 125 boats, oil skimmers, and cleaning machines are engaged in clearing the oil slick. Containment booms and oil skimmers are deployed in eight locations. Mechanized cleaning efforts in three shore areas have been completed, and affected houses are being cleaned using machinery. Absorbent pads and socks have been used to remove oil traces. Mobile units have benefited 2,700 individuals in the locality.
Sugar mills should aid farmers: Min Patil
Minister for sugar and agriculture marketing, Shivanand Patil, emphasized the importance of the sugar industry and sugarcane crop in the country’s economy. He urged sugar factories to prioritize the welfare of farmers in the state. The state government earns around Rs 25 to 35 thousand crore from the sugar industry, making it the third-largest sugarcane cultivator in the country. Patil expressed confidence that the state will soon rise to the top rankings. He also encouraged farmers to adopt scientific farming methods alongside traditional practices.
