3,427-acre Bkc-like Enclave Planned On Coast Near Malad | Mumbai News – Times of India

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has been appointed the special planning authority for 1,387 hectares (around 3,427 acres) along the coast to the west of Malad and, sources said, it plans to develop it along the lines of the Bandra-Kurla Complex. The land is an amalgamation of parts from six villages — Aksa, Daravli, Erangal, Madh, Malvani and Marve — and falls under the Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ-I).
CRZ-I refers to ecologically sensitive areas, but 936 hectares (around 2,300 acres) or 67% of the parcel has been demarcated as a special development zone (SDZ) for socially-driven development with an emphasis on affordable housing, public open spaces and necessary social infrastructure. SDZs can also have institutional development and development of film production facilities, tourism growth areas and amusement parks.
