GAYA: Suspected Maoists abducted three employees of a private company engaged in construction of a bridge in Lutua police station area under Imamganj block late Sunday night.
While the Maoists set free the guard and the munshi Monday morning, they held the third one as captive and demanded Rs 30 lakh ‘levy’ for releasing him.
They have threatened to kill the employee in the captivity, Shahnawaz Khan, if the amount was not paid within 24 hours.Police along with central forces have launched a massive campaign to ensure Khan’s recovery.
Gaya SSP Ashish Bharti reached Lutua on Monday and inquired about the incident from the two employees set free by the Maoists.
In a press statement, the SSP stated, “Following information that the munshi of a company engaged in the construction of a bridge at village Asurayin under Lutua police station area was taken to the forests by the Maoists late Sunday night, a team comprising Imamganj SDPO Amit Kumar and other police officers besides the central forces was constituted to ensure the recovery of the missing man.”
The SSP said the team is also collecting intelligence inputs about the activity of Maoists in the area.
According to information, the Maoists wanted to know about the estimated cost of the bridge.The employees told them that it was around Rs2 crore.
