Chennai: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Chennai branch, conducted a sensitistion programme for grama pachayats presidents and secretaries in Kancheepuram district recently.
The training programme was conducted simultaneously at Kancheepuram, Kundrathur, Sriperumbudur, Uthiramerur and Walajabad blocks of Kancheepuram and 491 grama panchayat presidents and secretaries took part in it.
The participants were explained about the BIS activities, hallmarking, BIS Care app and important standards for the products they use in day-to-day life.
BIS is a statutory body functioning under the union ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution. It operates various schemes like product certification (ISI mark), management systems certification, hallmarking of gold and silver jewellery/artefacts and laboratory services. TNN

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is conducting a training programme to help officials learn the skills to ensure quality materials are used in construction projects. The programme aims to familiarize participants with Indian Standards Institution (ISI) guidelines and encourage the procurement of resources marked with the ISI seal for guaranteed quality.
