Patna: Christmas was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety at the centuries old churches in Danapur Cantonment and Khagaul areas on Monday.
Hundreds of Christian faithful, including elderly and the young, attired in their Sunday best joined special mass service at the churches in the morning.
The 193 years old St Luke’s Church at Danapur Cantonment drew a huge gathering of the Christian faithful on its sprawling premises.About 500 Christian faithful, including Army officers, their families and civilians visited the church and wished each other ‘Merry Christmas’ by sharing cakes and sweetmeats on the occasion, reverend Bipin Angomcha said, adding Santa Claus greeted each of the Christian faithful, especially the children.
The 170 years old St Stephen Church at the Bihar Regimental Centre (BRC) celebrated Christmas with full devotion and enthusiasm. The sacred altar of Mother Mary was decorated with lights and flowers.
The church was a visual delight for the faithful during Sunday midnight celebration. Army personnel turned up in large numbers to attend the Monday special service and greeted each other, said priest Priesto Raj.
Anglo-Indians converged in large numbers to attend the special morning service at the 117 years old Catholic Church in Khagaul. The church was decorated with lights and festoons on the occasion.
Carol singing and Christmas songs were the main attractions, Father Albert Tirkey said, adding cakes and sweetmeats were distributed among the visitors.
The 127 years old Anglican Church in Khagaul also witnessed a huge gathering. Those who have migrated elsewhere also turned up at the church to attend the Christmas celebrations after a pretty long time, said a faithful, Samuel.
The Baptist Church in Khagaul and Catholic Church in Phulwarisharif celebrated the Christmas festival with distribution of cakes and gifts among children.
Reminiscing the past, a few Christian families said the Christmas celebration has lost its sheen with the passage of time in Khagaul.
