Ludhiana: After making a mark at various national and international platforms in the men’s double category, the Ludhiana-based shuttler Dhruv Kapila and his new badminton partner Tanisha Crasto won the 85th Senior National Badminton Championship in the mixed doubles category. The championship concluded in Guwahati on Sunday.
Dhruv Kapila’s men’s partner MR Arjuna, who had been injured for a long time, recently recovered but they have not yet started playing yet.Meanwhile, the Badminton Association of India paired him up in the mixed double’s category.
Dhruv started playing with Tanisha Crasta about a month ago. They played together for the first time in the Odisha Masters 2023 held from December 12 to December 17. They won a gold medal in the international event.
“This was our second game together in the senior nationals and we won it by defeating opponents Nitin Kumar and Navdha Manglam 21-13, 21-8,” he said.
Dhruv’s father Gagan Kapila said that in the Odisha Masters 2023, Dhruv and Tanisha defeated Singapore to win a gold for the country in the mixed doubles category. Kapila recently won a silver medal in the Asian Games, Hangzhou. Prior to that, he had won the Thomas Cup in 2022. Dhruv played with his partner, Krishna PG in the men’s doubles. That same year, Dhruv and his partner Arjun M R won the India Maharashtra International Challenge by defeating Thailand in the finals.
Dhruv said that he aims at representing the country in the Olympics.

Ritika Thaker led Maharashtra to victory in the 76th inter-state badminton championship in Guwahati. Maharashtra’s women shuttlers defeated Airports Authority of India (AAI) 3-0 in the final to become the national team champions. Shruti Mundada caused a major upset by defeating Tanya Hemanth in the opening singles match. Alisha Naik also won her singles match, securing a 2-0 lead for Maharashtra. In the doubles match, Ritika and Simran sealed the victory for Maharashtra. In the men’s team championship final, AAI defeated Karnataka 3-0.
