Panaji: The state government has planned to come up with reforms to the Code of Comunidades to facilitate the construction of various projects in comunidade land spread across the state, chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Tuesday. At least 30% of land across Goa belongs to comunidades.
“There is a need to bring new reforms to the Code of Comunidades. The people should benefit from them and the government should be allowed to come up with projects,” he said while exhorting the comunidades to support the government’s decision in case it comes up with amendments to the rules.
Revenue minister Atanasio Monserrate is conducting a detailed study of the reforms to the Code of Comunidades, the chief minister said.
The government recently decided to regularise all illegal structures on comunidade land, most of them homes. Sawant had said the state did not want to create slums but to provide relief to original Goans.
