Gurgaon: Government school students of classes 9 to 12 will now receive guidance and training from the engineers of the power department in the state. Top three students will be selected from each class of the government schools for the programme.
The department is working on preparing a blueprint on how the programme will look. The engineers of all the power corporations in the state will have to take time out of their schedule and guide the students as per their interests and capabilities. The process will continue for four years until the students clear Class 12 board examinations.
Chairman of Haryana Power Utility (Distribution Corporations) PK Das said, “The initiative is to begin from the new year. The bright students studying in government schools of Haryana, who dream of becoming doctors and engineers, but are short of resources, will be provided this opportunity.”
The engineers at the sub-division office-level, who are responsible for the power houses of the state, will help these children in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English.
They will also guide the students in preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for medicine and Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) prelims and mains for engineering.
Electricity corporations, which have so far opened over 24 libraries in villages across the state with CSR funds, are preparing to implement this proposed scheme in 2024. There are about 442 sub-stations in the state, out of which one SDO is appointed for every four to five sub-stations.
Though several SDOs are stationed at the state headquarters, there are over 300 engineers working on the field. The engineers will be asked to render their services to the students of government schools voluntarily.
Although SDO level officers are also employed in the state headquarters power companies, the engineers working in the field are also more than 300.
