Ludhiana: Sarabha Nagar Police booked three members of a family from Barnala for duping a Ludhiana-based jeweller of Rs 50 lakh. The accused purchased over 2kg gold jewellery from the victim on payment of cheques worth Rs 50 lakh, which were dishonoured by the bank.
The accused are Naresh Garg of Green Avenue in Barnala, his wife Neelam Garg and son Harshil Garg.The victim, Vijay Kumar Verma, who owns a jewellery shop near Fountain Chowk, said that the accused bought gold jewellery weighing 2.14kg on March 6. The accused gave two cheques of Rs 25 lakh each against the purchase. When he tried to encash the cheques, they were dishonoured.
He filed a police complaint on April 14 and an inquiry was marked. Investigating officer, ASI Ravinder Kumar said that a case has been registered under sections 420 (punishment for cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC against the accused, who are yet to be arrested.
