Iranian Gang Back Again? Five Men Pose As Cops, Rob Foreigner Of $16k | Gurgaon News – Times of India

GURGAON: Five men posing as cops allegedly robbed a 38-year-old Uzbek national of $16,000 in front of Artemis Hospital in Sector 51 on Saturday night, police said.
Complainant Sabirov Botir had come to India for a kidney transplant on December 14 and is staying at a hotel in Sector 52. He told police that he was returning to his hotel with his two brothers after a walk around 9pm on Saturday when they were stopped by a group of men in a black Honda City.
“There were 4-5 men inside, dressed like police officers, who presented fake police identity cards to us.They requested our documents to verify our identity. So, I showed them my passport. Meanwhile, one of the gang members asked for my bag under the pretext of checking it. Inside, I had $16,000 in US dollars. By the time I realised something was wrong, he seized all my money, pushed me, threw the bag at me, and fled the scene with the car,” Botir said.
Botir then went and recounted the incident to their hotel manager, who contacted the police about the same. The cops arrived at the spot and took them to the police station to register a complaint.
Mohit Sehrawat, the manager of the hotel, said, “This has not happened for the first time. We have been reading about such incidents earlier as well. Losing $16,000 is a big thing. Right now, my guests are in shock. However, they are hopeful that they will get their money back.”
An FIR was registered under sections 379A (snatching), 419 (cheating by personation) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC at Sector 53 police station on Sunday.
“The modus operandi of the crime is like the Iranian gang, which was known for duping foreign nationals coming to Delhi-NCR for medical treatment. It seems like the Iranian gang is active in the city again. We are currently investigating the matter and have yet to identify the accused. They will be arrested soon, and actions will be taken as per the law,” said inspector Baljit Singh from the Sector 53 police station.
