Noida: A 50-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly making derogatory remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah and chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
A video of the man was shared on social media, after which the police registered a suo motu case.
Police said Rampant Yadav, a resident of Hoshiarpur village in Sector 51, was seen in the video responding to queries , by a man not seen in the clips, on the three leaders.
“The video, where Yadav uses derogatory words for the PM, was making the rounds on social media, following which we took suo motu cognizance. The man was identified and arrested from Sector 49. He was charged under IPC Sections 505B (statements conducting public mischief with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the state or against the public tranquility) and 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act, 2000,” said DCP Harish Chander. He claimed the video was shot a couple of months ago.
“We are cross-verifying his claims,” police said.
