Bengaluru: A woman from Murugeshpalya, east Bengaluru, has shared on social media CCTV footage of a man dumping garbage outside a residence and alleged that a BBMP staffer in charge of collecting waste in the area was trying to harass the residents.
The woman posted the video on X on Sunday. “BBMP staff trying to harass residents. They threaten them first, then intentionally litter in front of their house & take pictures as evidence to collect a heavy fine from them,” she alleged.
Bengaluru police have asked her to provide her contact number and location details to initiate action.Police said they would contact the woman and register a case if she files a complaint. Officials from the solid waste management of BBMP said the uniform worn by the suspect captured in the video was not the one used by BBMP or its garbage collectors. They have sought details from the contractor concerned to know whether the person throwing the garbage belonged to the garbage collection staff or not.

3 tonnes of plastic waste, garbage collected during beach clean-up
The Greater Chennai Corporation and Urbaser-Sumeet collected three tonnes of plastic waste and other garbage in Broken Bridge in Besant Nagar and Foreshore Estate near Loop Road on Saturday, as part of beach clean-ups. The collected waste, including plastic bottles and bags, was sent to recycling units on Saturday. The nets used by fishermen get damaged and the waste also pollutes the nesting areas of Olive Ridley turtles. The fatal road accident of a conservancy worker in ECR in Thiruvanmiyur last month highlights the need for taking ownership of our garbage.

Renew expired cards, vendors tell BBMP
Street vendors in Bengaluru gathered outside the BBMP head office to protest the delay in renewal of their street-vendor cards. They demanded a fresh survey to issue renewed cards and expressed concerns over evictions. Some vendors faced losses and harassment from BBMP officials. The protest was triggered by the deaths of two vendors following an eviction drive. One vendor died of a heart attack after his cart was taken away, while another fell into depression and passed away. Vendors seek a meeting with the commissioner to address their concerns.
