Kalaburagi: Two women were bitten by monkeys at Balavadagi village near Kalaburagi a day ago. A group of monkeys arrived in the village, camped there, and started troubling people by snatching food. Lakshmibai Siddappa and Anitha Chavan who were reportedly attacked by monkeys were admitted to a hospital. Lakshmi was discharged, while Anitha is still in a private hospital in Kalaburagi.They sustained injuries on their legs, hands, and face. Villagers urged the forest department officers to shift these monkeys to the forest from their village as they have been a menace. They said women and children are scared of venturing out. Anyone stepping out has to carry a lathi. Many villagers are afraid of sending their children to school. Range forest officer Vijaykumar visited the village and met the victims. He assured them of compensation from the government. He also assured that monkeys will be shifted and in this regard, a team from Maharashtra will be arriving to catch monkeys. TNN

The movement of a sloth bear in agricultural fields and near human habitats, during night hours, in villages of Hanur taluk in Chamarajanagar district has been scaring residents in the last few days. The sloth bear was first spotted in Nellore and it attempted to break the doors of various homes. The forest officers rescued it from Ajjipura and released it into deep forests on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border. However, two days later, the sloth bear again appeared in Sandanapalya village. Panicked by the presence of the sloth bear in various villages of Hanur taluk, now residents demanded the forest department officials take immediate action to place cages to relocate the wild bear before attacking villagers and school students.
