Pune: Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday told TOI that no date, not even a tentative one, had been finalised yet for the inauguration of the city airport’s new terminal building.
TOI had sent a text message to Fadnavis stating that the new building of the airport was ready and if any date, even if tentative, had been finalised to inaugurate it.Replying to it, Fadnavis wrote, “Not as yet.”
TOI had sent an email to Sanjeev Kumar, the chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), earlier this month about the inauguration of the new terminal building. A reply from him is awaited. Kumar inspected the airport in mid-December, though.
A WhatsApp message was sent to the Pune airport director, Santosh Dhoke, enquiring about the same issue. His reply is also awaited.
The construction of the new terminal building started in late 2017. Earlier this month, the airport officials had said the new building was ready and they were awaiting a date from the Prime Minister’s Office pertaining to its inauguration.
As much as Rs475 crore was spent on the construction of the new terminal building.
A source had said earlier a visit of civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia was expected soon, following which a confirmation about the new terminal building’s inauguration would come.
Last week, Congress leaders said they would resort to protests if the airport’s new terminal building was not commissioned by January 1 next year.
