Panaji: The launch of an array of services for village panchayats has been delayed due to “technical reasons”, a senior directorate of panchayats (DoP) official said on Tuesday.
The government was aiming to launch these services from this month. “The software and other related systems are being developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). During the trial run, we encountered certain technical glitches so we decided to defer the launch.Presently, the NIC is in the process of rectifying the same,” the official said.
Offering these online services is part of the state government’s initiative to promote ease of doing business and the business reform action plan for the state. The department has already notified the services and application fees for the same.
The official said that once the online services are launched, citizens can obtain trade licences, permissions for signboards and advertisements, digital copies of birth and death certificates, no objection certificates for water and electricity connections, and income and residence certificates through the directorate of panchayats’ portal, panchayatsgoa.gov.in.
Those wanting construction licences and occupancy certificates will be redirected to the Goa Online portal.
The official claimed that all 191 panchayats have set up their websites, and the department will ensure that it is accessible to citizens at the time of launching the online services.
The birth and death records in all panchayats will be made available from 1971. Presently, two village panchayats — Taleigao and Curca-Bambolim-Talaulim — offer some of the services online and the response has been encouraging, the official added.
