Belagavi: Five-day fair of deity Renuka Yellamma began at Savadatti on Sunday. Around 2 lakh devotees from various places thronged to the temple on the first day of the fair.
According to traditions, the fair is held at Yellammanagudda as part of full-moon day (Hostila hunnime). As it takes 5-6 hours to get the darshan, the temple management has urged the devotees to cooperate.Many new facilities have been made in the temple premises for devotees.
Kankana Mangalsutra dissolution ceremony (Kankana Mangalasutra Visarjana Utsav) was held on Monday. The devotees queued up before the temple at 4am. This time, a large number of devotees from different states are attending the fair, because of which vehicular traffic has increased on roads leading to Yellammanagudda. Police have tightened security.
Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation buses are seen ferrying devotees from the neighbouring state. The Kolhapur unit of Shiva Sena and other organisations in Maharashtra have arranged breakfast for devotees and also providing medical facilities.
MLA Vishwas Vaidya said they are ensuring drinking water, and toilets for the convenience of devotees.
Deputy commissioner Nitesh Patil has appealed to devotees to maintain hygiene, wear masks and maintain safe distance from the crowd in the wake of looming Covid threat.
Renuka Yellamma temple organising committee president Basayya Hiremath and temple executive officer SPB Mahesh have requested the devotees to cooperate for a smooth and peaceful conduct of the fair.
Various religious programmes have been organised on Tuesday.

The Ram Temple Trust will make special arrangements for elderly visitors to Ram Janmabhoomi by launching e-vehicles on the temple premises. Dozens of battery operated golf carts will be purchased to carry 12 passengers at a time. The government has approved the formation of the Shree Renuka Yellamma Kshetra Tourism Development Board, aiming to transform the historic Renuka Yellamma temple in Savadatti into an international-level tourism spot. They plan to construct 2,000 rooms for tourists within the next two years, as the temple attracts over 1.25 crore visitors annually. Additionally, the government plans to provide temporary cabins for changing clothes and start fodder dasoha for the cattle that arrive during the upcoming fairs. The temple has ample funds and land, with over 1,000 acres in its possession.

The Paramapatha Vaasal of Arulmigu Ranganathaswamy temple in Srirangam opened for the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival. Lord Namperumal, the processional deity, proceeded through the temple corridors, and the Paramapatha Vaasal gate was opened for him. Thousands of devotees visited the temple. A local holiday was declared. The Thirunedunthantakam and Nammalvar Motcham rituals were conducted. In Madurai, devotees gathered at various Perumal temples, including the Lord Kallazhagar Temple.
