Pune: The Bhosari police on Monday arrested two mechanics from Kasarwadi on the charge of murdering a 28-year-old man, whom they had caught stealing scrap from their garage.
The incident occurred late on Saturday night near the Kasarwadi Metro station. The police have identified the deceased as Gautam Sonkamble of Dapodi. “We arrested Asif Patel (26) and Sadiq Shaikh (23) with the help of CCTV footage,” assistant inspector Padmabhushan Gaikwad of the Bhosari police told TOI.
Gaikwad said that during questioning, the duo revealed that someone had been stealing scrap material from their garage for the past few days.“On Saturday, Patel and Shaikh laid a trap and caught Sonkamble in the act,” Gaikwad said.
The duo thrashed Sonkamble with a few blunt objects, police said.
“The duo abandoned Sonkamble under a tree near the Metro station, a few metres away from their garage,” Gaikwad said.
