Dibrugarh: The town witnessed a vibrant and spirited celebration of Christmas on Monday as people from all walks of life united in joyful celebrations, spreading the message of peace, love and joy.
As the resonating sound of bells filled the air, families and friends adorned in their finest attire gathered in churches to offer prayers and seek blessings for their loved ones. The streets of the town sparkled with colourful lights, reflecting the festive ambience, while beautifully adorned Christmas trees adorned public spaces, shopping centers and homes throughout the town.
The Catholic Church at Khalihamari, Baptist Church at Jail Road, Church of Jesus Christ at Kadamoni, St Paul’s Church at Chawalkhowa, Presbyterian Church at Paltan Bazar, Church of North India at South Khalihamari and the Dibrugarh Mizo Church at Paltan Bazar witnessed a steady stream of visitors throughout the day.
Leading the midnight mass at the Catholic Church, Reverend Bishop Albert Hemrom of the Dibrugarh Diocese delivered a heartfelt sermon, emphasising the importance of compassion and spreading love during the festive season.
“Christmas is a time for us to reflect on the values that Jesus Christ taught us — love, forgiveness and compassion. As we celebrate together, let us remember those in need and extend a helping hand to make a positive difference in their lives,” Bishop Albert Hemrom said.
The charitable spirit of Christmas shone brightly in Dibrugarh as several organisations collected donations of clothing, toys and food items for orphanages and underprivileged families.

The cathedral has two cribs and the grounds are decorated with festoons and lights. St. Pauls Cathedral, undergoing a facelift, has opted for simple decorations this year to save money. The Gossner Evangelical Lutheran Church is adorned with colourful lights, hanging stars, chandeliers, and artificial cones and spruce lines.
