Director Sriram Raghavan says Saif Ali Khan was upset for note getting Vijay Sethupathi’s part in ‘Merry Christmas’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Merry Christmas‘ is one of the most anticipated films of 2024. The director of the movie, Sriram Raghavan, shared an interesting incident about the casting of this film.
In a recent interview, Sriram revealed that he was thrilled to cast Vijay Sethupathi in this project, but before that, there was another actor who had shown interest in Vijay’s character. He confirmed that the actor was Saif Ali Khan. However, the director didn’t cast Saif as he wanted something new and fresh.
Sriram told Pinkvilla that he wanted a unique pairing in this movie, and the storyline required it. The director was particular about people not getting any baggage from either of their actors. After finalizing Katrina in the lead role, he approached Saif for the male lead, but later he felt like it would not be a great choice. Then he had approached other actors too, but they had already shared the screen with the actress earlier.
Sriram and Saif have done films like ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ and ‘Agent Vinod,’ and the director remembers how sad Saif was when he did not get the part.

While answering how he found Vijay as his hero, the director replied that he met Vijay at an event that happened in Melbourne, and on the way, he watched Vijay Sethupathi’s 2018 film ’96’. The director recollected an incident when he asked Vijay whether he speaks Hindi or not, and he replied as if he had worked in Dubai for three years.
