Lee Sun-kyun’s request to keep his summons private was rejected by the police: Report – Times of India

Lee Sun-kyun passed away on December 27, days after he was questioned for nearly 19 hours in an alleged drugs probe. According to latest reports, the actor had requested that his last appearance for questioning not be open to the press.
According to Yonhap News Agency, officials stated that the police rejected this request and all three rounds of Lee’s police appearances were open to the press.The report stated that Lee Sun-kyun had made this request ahead of his last appearance, through his lawyer, citing concerns about the burden of public exposure during the investigative process.
Lee Sun-kyun appeared for questioning on October 28, November 4 and December 23. The late actor stood for press photos during all three appearances, despite guidelines prohibiting such exposure during the investigative process, reports Yonhap. According to the report, the day prior to Lee’s untimely demise, his attorney conveyed the actor’s desire that any subsequent appearances during police questioning be conducted in private.
The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency reportedly acknowledged receiving the request but denied informing the press of the questioning schedule. Yonhap quoted an official from the police agency as stating, “It’s correct that bringing people behind closed doors conforms to the principles. There was never an incident in which police released the schedule of Lee’s questioning first.”
Several industry actors and directors paid their last respects to Lee Sun-kyun at his wake. Lee Sun-kyun’s funeral ceremony will take place on December 29, his coffin will reportedly be transported to his family burial grounds.
