DIBRUGARH: In a major breakthrough for the security forces, two hardcore Ulfa (Independent) militants were arrested in a joint operation conducted by the Assam Rifles and the police personnel near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Tinsukia district on Wednesday. The captured militants have been identified as self-styled sergeant major Bibek Asom and Ulfa-I cadre Mrigang Asom.
The Assam Rifles sources said the operation, carried out at Faneng in Tinsukia district, was executed with precision and coordination with the local police. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the security forces swiftly moved in to apprehend the militants, who were believed to be involved in carrying out subversive activities in the region.
