Ludhiana: Police here on Thursday issued orders to restaurants, bars, hotels and other such establishments in Ludhiana, asking them to not function beyond 1am on New Year’s Eve.
As per the order issued by deputy commissioner of police (headquarters) Rupinder Singh on Thursday, such establishment will only be allowed to stay open till 1 am because of fears of law and order trouble.
The order suggests that since a large number of people would attend New Year’s Eve parties, there would always be a chance of fights and scuffles breaking out. The order added that this was why “special steps” were being taken in public interest.
The order has been issued by the DCP under Section 144 of CrPc. It applies to all restaurants, clubs, bars, hotels, ice cream parlours and studios.
Police have warned of action against establishments which organise New Year’s Eve parties beyond the permissible time.
