Get indigenous, innovative: Guv at CSA agri univ’s convocation | Kanpur News – Times of India

Kanpur: Governor Anandiben Patel said it was a sign of women empowerment that girls bagged more medals than boys in the 25th convocation of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture on Thursday.
“Moreover, rural women are coming forward in the agriculture sector and related industries and are becoming self-reliant and strengthening the Indian economy,” said the Chancellor of the state universities, at the event. She said that to double income of farmers, agricultural costs should be reduced and cow-based natural farming should be adopted. “Farmers should not buy agricultural inputs from the market and instead use their own prepared inputs, so that the cost of agriculture can be reduced,” she said.
Handing out tips to students, the Governor said they should adopt latest agricultural techniques along with organic and cow-based natural farming. She added that problem of malnutrition coul be solved if nutritious food was given to the children. “I am happy that this university has played an important role in promoting the Green Revolution,” she said.
Two meritorious students of the university including Anshika Shukla and Akash Kumar Kamal received a cheque of Rs 50,000 each on the occasion. Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr Anand Kumar Singh, presented the progress report of the university and gave detailed information about innovations in teaching, research and extension work.
On the occasion, chief guest G R Chintala, former chairman NABARD, congratulated all students who received medals and degrees. Addressing the students, he said there was a lot of potential for agricultural export in Uttar Pradesh and there were more employment opportunities in the agricultural sector. “Students should move forward through innovation in the agricultural sector and bring glory to your university as well as your parents,” he said.
Medals and awards were given to 62 meritorious students and a total of 599 students received degree. A total of 14 best performing students were awarded Chancellor’s Gold Medal, 14 students were awarded University Silver Medal, 13 students were awarded University Bronze Medal and 21 students were awarded Sponsored Gold Medal. Many students received more than one medal on this occasion. On this occasion, Mandava Prabhakar Rao, chairman and managing director of Nuziveedu Seeds Limited, Hyderabad, was awarded the honorary degree by Chancellor Anandiben Patel.
Later, the Governor presented books, millets, pens, fruits and bags to 30 students of Primary School Naveen Rawatpur adopted by the University and also presented 200 books to the primary school teachers and teachers for the school library.
The Governor told the audience about the importance of water conservation. Minister of state for agriculture, agricultural education and research Baldev Singh Aulakh too gave medals to the meritorious students.
