Siblings arrested for murdering man during drunken brawl near Coimbatore | Chennai News – Times of India

COIMBATORE: The Sulthanpet police in Coimbatore district arrested two youths on Thursday night for murdering a minitruck owner cum driver in a drunken brawl in Jallipatti village on Wednesday night.
The arrested youths have been identified as R Selvakumar, 25, of Manakattur village in Dindigul district and his younger brother R Sivasamy, 22. They were engaged in coconut husk peeling in Jallipatti village and staying in a room there.
Around 9pm on Wednesday, the duo were consuming liquor in a Tasmac bar in the village. P Prakash, 33, of Kammalapatti village, who owned a minitruck, was also in the bar. Prakash asked them to give him their water bottle. When the duo refused, Prakash picked up a quarrel with them. Bar staffers intervened and asked them to leave the premises.
Around 9.30pm, the duo attacked Prakash with a log in an isolated place on a road. Prakash sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. The dead body was found at least 20 metre away from the road.
On Thursday morning, the passerby noticed the dead body and alerted the Sulthanpet police. Sulur circle police inspector R Mathaiyan and team rushed to the spot and sent the dead body to the ESI Medical College Hospital in Coimbatore city for postmortem.
The police visited the Tasmac bar and collected CCTV footage. Based on the CCTV footage, the police traced the whereabouts of the duo and arrested them on Thursday night.
They were remanded in judicial custody on Friday morning.
