Hubballi: Opposition to the appointment of the state BJP chief notwithstanding, the party has started reorganising the district units.
There are more than 40 aspirants for the presidents’ posts at Hubballi-Dharwad Mahanagar Zilla (HDMZ), and Dharwad Rural district. For finalising the candidate, the party has appointed two observers, and they will collect opinion from local leaders.They will also study the background of the aspirants, and submit the shortlist to the state party chief.
The observers will collect the opinions at a private hotel on December 30 and 31.
HDMZ president Sanjay Kapatkar told TOI the BJP state unit has appointed observers to elicit opinions from local MLAs, MP, office bearers, and at the mandal level and submit a report.
“Given a chance, I will continue as the president. The party seniors in Bengaluru will have to take a decision,” said Kapatkar.
According to sources, around 10 major aspirants are in the race to be the president, with Kapatkar, corporators Tippanna Majjagi, Shivu Menasinkai, Dattamurthy Kulkarni, Ravi Naik being the frontrunners.
There are 30 aspirants to be Dharwad Rural district president, and they include its current president Basavaraj Kundgolmath. Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, being the observer, will collect opinions of the party leaders in the district.

Former MLAs, senior party officials, and workers from various political parties in Haryana joined the Congress, strengthening the fight for change of power in the state. The leaders, including Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Ch Udaibhan, expressed confidence in the Congress policies and resolved to bring a pro-people Congress government to Haryana. The new members include Suraj Bhan Kajal, Vinay Singh Yadav, Ch Balbir Singh, Sajjan Singh Dhull, Wazir Singh Goyat, Kuldeep Ahlawat, Pyarelal, Totaram, Vinod Kumari Chauhan, and Bhupinder. Their arrival will further strengthen the Congress party, which aims to form the government in 2024.
