Jaipur: Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday expressed shock over the removal of Paramveer Chakra winner Major Shaitan Singh’s memorial from the India-China border by the central government. Singh was martyred in the 1962 India-China war.
The former CM said, “It would have been better if the central government had given official information in this regard before removing the memorial for any reason.”
“The entire country including Marwar is shocked to hear the news of the removal of the memorial built on the India-China border of Paramveer Chakra winner Major Shaitan Singh, son of my home district Jodhpur and martyred in the 1962 India-China war,” Gehlot wrote on ‘X’.

India to match China in infrastructure development along borders within 2 years: Lt General Rana Pratap Kalita
Lt General Rana Pratap Kalita, Eastern Army Commander, stated that India will be able to match China in terms of infrastructure development along the border within a couple of years. He acknowledged that China has an advantage due to early development but believes India can catch up. Kalita emphasized the importance of road connectivity, data communication, helipads, and airports in remote areas. He also mentioned the need for accommodation and alternative road connectivity in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. Infrastructure development will benefit both the armed forces and the local populace.
