Patna: The ruling Grand Alliance in Bihar reacted cautiously to the leadership change in JD(U), hoping the move would further strengthen the coalition ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. CM Nitish Kumar was on Friday nominated the JD(U) president after Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh resigned from the post.
State RJD spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan said Nitish would now move on nationwide campaign, which would benefit the INDIA bloc in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.“Although leadership change is an internal matter of the party, we are sure this will benefit the INDIA bloc,” Gagan said, adding the “friendship” between the leaders and supporters of RJD and JD(U) would leave tremendous impact on the poll outcome.
“The Grand Alliance could be formed and the new government came to power in the state only because Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar came together. This bond would get cemented further,” Gagan opined.
Another RJD spokesperson, Shakti Singh Yadav said they were moving forward under the leadership of Nitish with a number of major decisions taken by the GA government, such as hike in reservation percentage, granting status of state government employees to 4 lakh schoolteachers, focus on quality education and government jobs to lakhs of youths. “Sankalp aur pran Tejashwi Yadav ka aur netritva Nitish Kumar ka (moving forward under Nitish’s leadership with the resolve of Tejashwi Yadav),” Yadav explained.
Congress said Nitish as the JD(U) chief was in the interest of the INDIA bloc. “Now he will be in active role, which will be good for the opposition bloc,” Congress MLC Prem Chandra Mishra said, adding, “No matter what role he gets, it is Nitish who is the leader.”
The CPI-ML said Nitish in his new role would look after the party affairs and take decisions at his own level to strengthen the ruling alliance. “This is a normal process. Every party holds the right to make changes in its organizational structure but now he will be able to take his own decisions at the national level,” CPI-ML leader in the state assembly, Mahboob Alam said.
Leader of opposition in BIhar legislative assembly, Vijay Kumar Sinha, said a self-respecting person never accepts this type of farewell and he (Lalan) should have offered his resignation earlier. “When the party and the leadership do not have confidence in him, there is no point in holding that post. He (Lalan) should have resigned earlier,” Sinha told a news agency.
