BMC Office Pay Cut for Latecoming Employees | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: Latecomers to office beware! The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has issued an order for its employees saying coming late to office will invite a pay cut of the entire day.
In a latest order, the civic body said coming late will be treated as absence for all its employees and they will be tagged under no-work-no-pay category if they come even five minutes late to the office especially on the working days from Monday to Saturday.
According to the office schedule prescribed for the employees, they should arrive in office and mark their attendance between 9.45 am and 10.15 am. However, a grace period of 15 minutes has been given for the employees in emergency situations.
This means, anyone coming after 10.30 am will face the music. The BMC has stated that the order will be applicable to the employees falling in the category of regular, contractual, outsourcing and even the consultants.
The state government has envisaged core fundamentals of 5T to be followed by every government functionary within the state as a part of the policy towards sustainable and inclusive development of the state, the order read.
The order said time is one of the key parameters that must be adhered to and practiced for disposal of government work under the 5T initiative. In order to develop such a practice, it is imperative to ensure arrival to the workplace within official time, it said.
The order also said early arrival will not only lead to faster disposal of work but will also enable a healthier work-life balance that would enhance the work efficiency of each worker within the organisation.
People, however, are sceptical of the implementation of the order. “Government employees are the ones who are often irregular. BMC’s order will only make impact when they take the action as they are saying,” social worker Alok Kar said.
Earlier, the BMC had issued a similar order and made cycle to work mandatory for its employees every Friday. The aim was to promote a healthy lifestyle while caring for the environment. However, the move failed to make any positive impact on the civic body’s employees.
