New Delhi: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday returned from Anandgarh village in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district after completing the 10-day Vipassana course.
The chief minister posted on social media that he was feeling re-energised and was looking forward to getting back to serving people now. “Returned today after 10 days of Vipassana meditation. This sadhana gives immense peace. From today onwards, we will again start serving the public with new energy,” Kejriwal tweeted.
Though the CM was supposed to go for the meditation course on December 19, he had to delay his programme by a day due to the first meeting of the INDIA bloc after the assembly polls in five states.
Due to the course of his Vipassana retreat, which Kejriwal said was “pre-scheduled” and in public domain, the CM also skipped the summons served on him by the enforcement directorate to appear before it on December 21 in a case related to alleged money laundering charges in the now withdrawn excise policy of 2021-22.
Urging the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to withdraw the summons, Kejriwal had said those were “illegal and politically motivated” like the previous one sent to him in November, which the CM had skipped. He had also observed that the summons didn’t specify if he was being called for questioning as an accused or a witness and as an individual or the CM of Delhi or the national convener of Aam Aadmi Party.
The ED, however, sent another summons asking Kejriwal to appear on January 3, when he was away for Vipassana. The AAP leaders questioned the summons saying those can only be personally served to the person in question but Kejriwal was away.
AAP, meanwhile, said the ‘Mai Bhi Kejriwal’ signature camp, which was launched by the party to take the opinion of people if CM Arvind Kejriwal should resign or run the government from jail should he get arrested in a fake case, concluded on Saturday.
AAP’s general secretary (organisation) and Rajya Sabha member Sandeep Pathak called a meeting of the party’s office-bearers and said the second phase of the campaign would begin on January 4. In ‘Mai Bhi Kejriwal Jan Samwaad’, functionaries and elected representatives of the party will hold public meetings across the city.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor claimed AAP was totally cut off from people and its ‘Main Bhi Kejriwal’ campaign was not visible anywhere. “The entire campaign was limited to posting photographs on X (formerly Twitter). Similarly, the new public dialogue programme, too, will be limited to leaders of the party meeting its small cadre,” Kapoor said.
