Bhubaneswar: Scotching speculations of a possible alliance with BJD in the 2024 elections, BJP on Saturday said it will fight the simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly polls without any coalition with the regional party.
BJP national spokesperson and Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi said some vested interests were spreading rumours of a possible BJP-BJD coalition.“There are some people who are giving a wrong impression because of their own vested interests that there is a possibility of an alliance between BJP and BJD. We have been categorically told today that there is no such remote possibility,” she said after a meeting of party’s office-bearers, attended by BJP general secretary and Odisha in-charge Sunil Bansal.
Sarangi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting of the party’s national office-bearers in Delhi a few days ago and issued many directions on how to fight the 2024 polls.
The MP said Bansal has made it very clear the elections will be fought like a war with all sincerity. “There is no question of compromise or coalition with any party. We will fight in all 21 Lok Sabha seats and 147 assembly seats in the state. We will fight aggressively,” Sarangi told mediapersons.
Leader of the opposition and senior MLA Jaya Narayan Mishra said the entire focus of the party in the state was to bring a BJP government in power in Odisha in 2024. “Since the Congress is virtually out of the race, our focus is to get more than 50% votes in every constituency in a one-on-one fight with BJD,” he said.

BJP office-bearers’ list: Heartburn in north Karnataka
The BJP’s list of state office-bearers has disappointed party leaders in North Karnataka, who feel that their region has been intentionally neglected. Dharwad district and Gadag have received no representation in the list, leading to accusations of suppression. Party leaders in these districts believe that the omission is an attempt to weaken the control of Pralhad Joshi, who is influential in the region. The leaders express hope that Joshi, being powerful in the center, will rectify the situation. They emphasize that the neglect of North Karnataka is a serious issue that needs to be addressed, as the region has played a significant role in strengthening the party.
