Kanpur: Chairman of the Elders Committee Ghulam Rabbani, advocate and chief returning officer Somendra Sharma, advocate on Monday asked the member-advocates of the Lawyers’ Association not to organize any feast or display posters or banners in and outside the Kanpur court campus.
Citing the directions issued jointly by Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Prashant Kumar of the Allahabad high court and the Bar Council of UP, the chief returning officer asked the advocates not to display advertising material such as banners, posters, hoardings and stickers inside the court campus and outside in the city.They had also prohibited taking gifts and throwing parties and feasts.
In view of those directions, the returning officer directed the aspirants to remove their advertisement material within a week else legal action would be taken against them.
The annual general election of the Lawyers Association is scheduled to be held this year in the second week of February. He also said that if aspirants failed to remove their advertising material from inside and outside the court campus, then they would be banned from taking part in the election. tnn

Former Chhattisgarh high court judge appointed chief justice of Rajasthan
Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, the senior-most former puisne Judge from the Chhattisgarh High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. He served as a Judge in the Chhattisgarh HC from 2009 to 2021. Justice Shrivastava, who authored over 505 reported judgments, brings substantial experience in dispensing justice to his new role. The appointment was made upon the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium, comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, Judge Sanjiv Khanna, and Judge V R Gavai. His parent High Court, Chhattisgarh, now lacks representation among the Chief Justices of the High Courts.

Hong Kong democracy activist Tony Chung has fled to Britain due to authorities’ supervision and pressure to become an informant, limiting his work options. He became the youngest person imprisoned under Hong Kong’s national security law and lived in fear after his release. Chung sought permission to leave Hong Kong and has applied for political asylum in the United Kingdom. The Deputy Commissioner of Hong Kong’s correctional services condemned Chung, and authorities have issued a recall order. Chung’s departure follows activist Agnes Chow’s move to Canada. He calls himself a ‘Hong Kong exile’ and believes in the future of freedom and democracy in Hong Kong.
