3.5% blood units donated over 5 years tested positive for transfusion transmitted infections
A study conducted over five years in Chandigarh identified a high seroprevalence of transfusion-transmitted infections (TTIs) in blood donations, including HIV, HBV, HCV, and Treponema pallidum infection. The World Health Organisation emphasizes the need for testing all blood donations for these infections. The study highlights the importance of enhanced donor selection and rigorous screening measures to ensure safety. Experts are concerned about the elevated seroprevalence of HCV and Treponema pallidum infection, emphasizing the urgent need for stringent donor criteria and intensified screening.

Controversy’s child: What keeps Swami Prasad Maurya going?
Samajwadi Party’s Swami Prasad Maurya continues to make provocative comments on sensitive issues, drawing criticism from saffron parties and upper caste leaders. Despite directives from SP leadership to refrain from making comments on any religion, Maurya persists in making controversial statements. The party’s stance of distancing itself from Maurya’s comments is seen as a strategic move to position itself as more focused on OBCs, Dalits, and Minorities. Observers believe Maurya’s statements aim to disrupt upper castes rather than the Hindu religion itself, focusing on caste system and the treatment of women, tribals, and Dalits.
