BENGALURU: Three truck drivers who allegedly siphoned off a consignment of 1,558 pairs of Nike shoes worth about Rs 1.1 crore have been arrested by Attibele police.
The main accused – Saleh Ahmed Laskar, a truck driver – who was assigned to ferry the shoes from a Nike showroom to a godown of Myntra, an e-commerce firm, is at large. Instead of delivering the shoes at the godown, Laskar and his friends stole them and were planning to sell them.
The arrested are Subhan Pasha, 30, a resident of Bagalur and Monser Ali, 26, and Sahidul Rahman, 26, from Devarabisahanahlli. All three are from Assam and work as truck drivers in the city.
A team headed by police inspector Raghavendra S arrested the trio and recovered the stolen property intact.
On December 22, Nagaraju B, owner of Diganth transport, filed a complaint with Suryanagar police, stating that his firm provides trucks and drivers to logistics firms for goods transportation. Nagaraju added that his company hires trucks and drivers from EC Shipper transport services in Peenya.
Nagaraju said in this case, he asked the owner of EC Shipper to send a truck with a driver to ferry goods from the Nike showroom at Shettihalli to the Myntra godown in Anugondanahalli.
Laskar was assigned the job and he took the truck bearing registration number KA-04-B-8342 to the showroom on December 21. After loading about 1,558 pairs of shoes into the truck, he left the showroom around 6.30pm.
Nagaraju’s supervisor Manjunath called Laskar around 9.15pm and asked him why he hadn’t delivered the shoes to the Myntra godown. Laskar told him that he would be reaching the godown in the next 10 minutes. But even after 10.30pm, he hadn’t reached the place.
EC Shipper was informed about the same. They checked the truck GPS and found that it was in Razakpalya in north Bengaluru between 10.45pm and 11.30pm. Nagaraju and EC Shipper employees went in search of the truck and found an empty vehicle near Tharabanahalli, Chikkabanavara.
Based on the jurisdiction the case was transferred to Attibele police station. A team rushed to the spot, verified footage from CCTV cameras in the surrounding areas and found a mini-goods vehicle passing Tharabanahalli at midnight. They traced the vehicle parked near a building. It was loaded with shoes.
Meanwhile, police zeroed in on the trio. The three confessed that Laskar had informed them about transporting the shoes. They planned to steal the shoes and sell them by the roadside at a lesser price and make some quick money. Laskar had joined EC Shippers as a driver just a week ago.
