The new building will have seven floors and a four-level underground parking facility to accommodate more than 600 vehicles. It will have several counters for various public services with a huge lounge.
The existing mini secretariat was opened in 2004 as the district’s administrative centre. It houses 24 government offices, including those of the city’s top officials such as the Gurgaon deputy commissioner, deputy commissioner of police, RTA secretary and sub-divisional magistrate, apart from the revenue department and education department offices. The building, which is in bad shape at present, witnesses a footfall of around 4,000 people every day.
Deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav said a plan is in the making for construction of a new mini secretariat which can house all the government buildings and meet the requirement of the people. “The building will have a large parking facility. Its design is expected to be ready in the next three months,” said Yadav, adding that a large number of visitors visit the mini secretariat for various work.
Since 2010, officials have been looking for an alternative site for shifting some of the government departments from the building or construct a new building altogether as they have found the secretariat to be unequipped to handle the large volume of people.
In 2019, then additional secretary Keshni Anand Arora had visited a site where the proposed administrative building was supposed to be constructed. A committee was also formed to compile a layout plan. As per the plan, the new building was supposed to have adequate parking space, residential areas for officials and staff and a community centre, among other facilities. But the plan didn’t take off.
In the meantime, a corner near the Covid e-Health Centre on the right side of the Mini Secretariat has been given a facelift. Developed with community participation, in this corner, along with modern art, wall paintings have been done and seating arrangements have been made for visitors to mini secretariat.
