Yogi Adityanath reviews Masterplans-2031 for key UP cities | Lucknow News – Times of India

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the Masterplans-2031 for cities like Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Meerut, Aligarh and Mathura-Vrindavan on Wednesday and directed officials to develop clusters where local crafts and traditional products could be encouraged.
Discussing planned development in these cities, Yogi said that all of them should have an Inner Ring Road and various link roads connecting to this road where facilities should be provided.
“To remove congestion within the city, it is necessary to provide facilities for the development of different business activities on different routes outside the Ring Road. For example, arrangements should be made to build warehouses for the textile market and for the pharmaceutical market at different places. Similarly, an education hub should be developed on some other route,” the CM said.
He added that the masterplan should have provision for allowing one to generate income from one’s own sources. Bus stations should be established as far outside the city as possible, he said, and people should be provided electric bus facility to come into the city.
Calling traffic management in cities an important aspect of planning, the CM said that electric buses must be prioritised while those running on conventional fuel must be kept out of the city as much as possible.
The CM said that a logistics hub should be prepared near Transport Nagar a nd that rehabilitation of people affected due to various development projects should be carried out on priority. He stressed on the need to maintain green areas in every masterplan, saying that no new colony should be allowed to come up in any green belt. All kinds of basic facilities like roads, sewer, electricity and water should be provided in newly developed colonies, he said.
Yogi said that UP is now hosting important national and international events and to ensure that every city in the state gets such opportunities, development of infrastructure facilities is necessary, including an international level convention centre.
“All authorities and local bodies should ensure that illegal settlements and colonies are not established anywhere. Every colony should have all the basic necessary facilities,” he said, asking all development authorities to explore new possibilities of expansion and revenue.

Should govt have the power to open any package meant for you?
The Post Office Bill, 2023, has cleared both Houses of Parliament and is awaiting the President’s assent. The bill replaces a colonial-era law and has raised concerns about the right to privacy and freedom of speech and expression. The term ‘public emergency’ has been replaced with ’emergency’ in the bill, which legal experts argue is vague and grants the government too much power. The Law Commission report in 1968 recommended aligning the interception of postal articles with the restrictions in Article 19(2) of the Constitution. The new bill lacks accountability as it no longer requires officers to justify intercepting and opening packages in writing.
