JAIPUR: Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma on Friday assigned portfolios to two Dy CMs and 22 ministers, keeping eight departments, including home, department of personnel, excise, general administration, and anti-corruption bureau, to himself.
Deputy chief minister Diya Kumari has been given six power-packed departments, including finance, tourism, women & child welfare, and PWD.In the past four governments – two each headed by Vasundhara Raje and Ashok Gehlot – finance department was kept by the CMs. Last cabinet minister to hold finance department was Pradhyumn Singh during Gehlot’s first tenure as CM from 1998 to 2003.
Other deputy CM Prem Chand Bairwa will lead four departments, including technical education, higher education and road & transport.
The portfolios were assigned 12 days after 22 ministers were sworn in on December 25. Governor Kalraj Mishra administered the oath that day to 12 cabinet ministers, five junior ministers (independent charge) and as many junior ministers, taking the total tally to 25 ministers, including the CM and two deputy CMs. The announcement of portfolios came hours before PM Modi landed in Jaipur to attend a meeting with BJP MLAs and the DG-IG conference.
Six-time MLA Kirori Lal Meena has got back the charge of disaster management after a gap of 20 years. In addition, he has been given departments in which he expressed interest like agriculture and rural development.
Firebrand politician and minister Madan Dilawar will hold the charge of school education, panchayati raj and Sanskrit education, while former Union minister Rajyavardhan Rathore has been given the charge of five departments, which is the third highest in the Bhajanlal cabinet. Rathore will hold the charge of industries and commerce, information technology and communication, youth affairs and sports, skill development, and Sainik Kalyan department.
BJP candidate from Karanpur assembly segment Surendra Pal Singh TT has been rewarded with four departments on the day of polling in his constituency. As junior minister, TT would hold independent charge and has been assigned agriculture marketing, irrigation, Indira Gandhi canal, and minorities affairs departments.
A two-time MLA, Jabar Singh Kharra has been made a junior minister with independent charge to lead the UDH ministry.
