CM Eknath Shinde’s Rebellion: Saving Shiv Sena | News Article | Pune News – Times of India

PUNE: Chief minister Eknath Shinde, in a veiled attack on Senas (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, on Saturday said some people lied to Shiv Sainiks and broke the natural alliance to become the CM and he rebelled against such individuals to save the party.
In a run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Shinde kicked off ‘Shiv Sankalp’ campaign in Shirur and Maval constituencies on Saturday, where he came down heavily on Thackeray while addressing party workers.
“Some individuals betrayed their own people, insulted Shiv Sainiks and lied to break the natural alliance with the BJP. Through this campaign, we will show them their real place,” Shinde said during his speech to the party workers.
Recalling the toppling of the Thackeray-led MVA government one-and-a-half years ago, Shinde said, “Everyone witnessed what happened then. Because of the support of the party workers, a small worker like me could become the chief minister of the state.”
Shinde said he took the drastic step to save Shiv Sena. “I had a very honest intention of saving the party. Had I taken the wrong decision, I would not have garnered so much support from Shiv Sainiks. They stood behind me as they knew that I was making the right choice. Even today, several leaders and workers of other parties are joining the party,” the chief minister said.
“Every leader tends to go with the power, but nobody dares to go against it. However, despite being the minister (in the MVA government), I chose to go against the power only to keep Balasaheb Thackeray’s real Shiv Sena alive,” Shinde added.
Taking a dig at Uddhav Thackeray for becoming the CM of the state in 2019, Shinde said, “In 1995, Balasaheb Thackeray had a chance to become the CM, but he chose a party worker for that post. Later in 2019, some announced that they will fulfil the dream of Balasaheb by making another Shiv Sainik a CM. When the time came, however, all the party workers were moved aside, and he (Uddhav) got himself in the chair of the chief minister.”
On the backdrop of upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Shinde said the grand alliance was aiming at taking the tally beyond 45 seats in Maharashtra to ensure that Prime Minister Narendra Modi continue his run as the PM for third time.
