Aicc Okays 38-member Committee For Ls Polls In Assam | Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: AICC has approved a 38-member election committee for 2024 Lok Sabha polls headed by Assam PCC president Bhupen Borah as chairperson and leader of opposition Debabrata Saikia as vice-chairperson. Sources said the committee may remain functional till 2026 assembly polls.
A statement issued by AICC general secretary K C Venugopal said Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the proposal to constitute Pradesh Election Committee of Assam PCC with immediate effect.
Gaurav Gogoi, Pradyut Bordoloi and Abdul Khaleque, three sitting MPs of the Congress, are the members of the committee. Moreover, state presidents of Mahila Congress, Seva Dal, Youth Congress and NSUI are the ex-officio members of the committee.
Assam PCC president Bhupen Borah said the election committee has representation from different communities and constituencies. There was no functional election committee of the Assam PCC since 2021, Borah said.
“The opinion of the members of the election committee will be crucial in screening our candidates for the coming elections, especially Lok Sabha polls. They will form panels and send their opinions to the AICC screening committee,” he said.

Tripura Congress committee undergoes rejig ahead of Lok Sabha polls
The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has undergone a major organisational rejig ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The new TPCC executive committee consists of 75 members, including prominent party leaders such as Sudip Roy Barman, Gopal Chandra Roy, Birajit Singha, and Samir Ranjan Barman. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has also approved the appointment of nine presidents for district Congress committees (DCCs) and a nine-member pradesh election committee, headed by TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha.
Congress sets up election committees for 8 states
The Congress has set up election committees for several states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura. In Telangana, A Revanth Reddy was announced as the chairman of the Pradesh Election Committee with Uttam Kumar Reddy, V Hanumantha Rao, and BhattibVikramarka Mallu as members. Rajasthan PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra was appointed the chairman of the Pradesh Election Committee in the state, with Ashok Gehlot and others as committee members. The party also appointed Jitu Patwari as the head of the Pradesh Election Committee for Madhya Pradesh, with Digvijaya Singh, Vivek Tankha, and others as members.
