Gurgaon: The educational qualifications of assistant professors serving in government colleges have come under the scrutiny of the department.
Professors serving in government colleges after securing their PhD from private universities or those who have got their PhD after enrolling with a college as an assistant professor have been asked to submit their documents and records to the department in Panchkula .
The higher education department has sent a letter to the principals of all colleges in the state and instructed them to send these assistant professors to Panchkula along with the records of their academic documents on Monday.
The department has sent a PhD proforma to the assistant professors of these colleges, which they have to fill up, with details of their degree and the university they took the degree from.
Recently, the University Grants Commission (UGC) listed six universities of Rajasthan as fake. Several assistant professors pursued their PhD from these universities and got jobs in states of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and other neighbouring states.
Besides scrutinising their PhD documents, the department has also asked these professors to submit an affidavit of their records and of their authenticity. If the called assistant professor does not reach Panchkula on Monday, the department will take action against them and against the principal of the college they are working with.
Commenting on the trend, SPS Dahiya, retired professor and former registrar of Maharshi Dayanand University, said, “One can buy a PhD for Rs 3-4 lakh from these private universities. Even the UGC is aware of the scandal, but nobody is willing to bell the cat because big politicians own these teaching shops known as private universities,” he added.
